Andrew and Eric were married in an intimate ceremony at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. When they were falling in love, Eric introduced Andrew, an Iowa farm boy, to the beauty of the Great Lakes. Together, they wanted to show their guests the chic charm this region of Michigan has to offer. I was happy to provide signage for their intimate, phone-free ceremony, their local donuts, and the backs of their chairs, among other things. The groom, Eric, stained and sealed the live-edge wood and I lettered them with paint marker. Flowers by Andy Sell.

Abby and Steve were married on a gorgeous private property north of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dinner and dancing followed at Green Things Farm. Abby and Steve fell in love in Abby’s hometown of San Francisco, where she worked as a pastry chef and Steve worked as a cheese monger. They moved to Steve’s home state of Michigan to fulfill their dream to open a restaurant, Spencer. It’s a gathering place for a community of creative, hopeful individuals, and their wedding was truly a reflection of everything that they have built together. Abby, with the help of Spencer staff, cooked the entire meal. Wine, cider and beer flowed, and friends danced into the night. The signage was hand-painted with a modern art bent, an homage to the creativity that Abby brings to everything she does.

I love A and Dayna, and I love their love. These signs were not labored over for months, planned to the last letter. They were done in the way things are done when friends and family are helping. In the heat of July, as folks were rushing around, arranging flowers, blending herbs, baking pies, ironing kerchiefs, hot gluing ribbon, hair spraying, ensuring Dayna her nails were perfect, and going on amazing Zingerman’s bagel runs, I made these happen quickly and with whimsy. Truly a super gay day.

Carol and Ryan celebrated their marriage at Cobblestone Farms in Ann Arbor, MI, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Navy watercolor with white acrylic and tiny flecks of gold carried over a subtle starry night theme from their save-the-dates.
